MEET HLA ELKHATIB

Hla is a lifelong Folsom resident who was raised in our incredible city alongside her two siblings. As a proud Folsom High graduate, Folsom Lake College graduate, and former FCUSD intern, Hla is passionate about fostering collaborative relationships with our educational institutions to ensure Folsom students have what they need to thrive.

Hla received her Bachelors in Political Science with a Minor in Human Rights from the neighboring University of California, Davis where she expanded her leadership efforts by advocating for student needs as the Student Advisor to Chancellor Gary May.

After graduating, Hla immediately began her career as a policy professional in the California State Senate where she helped draft, analyze and spearhead the passage of numerous bills which have now been signed into California law. In this role, Hla advised and negotiated with key stakeholders on pressing policy issues including health and human services, public safety and civil rights.

Aside from her public policy experience, Hla is also a law student who aims to use her legal skills to give back to her community. As a small business owner of a local catering company, Hla understands that small businesses contribute immensely to the city and its economic development. She will work hard to support small businesses and ensure their needs are met.
